The Pre-Apprenticeship phase, running from September 4 to December 15, 2024, introduces participants to the fundamentals of work ethics, dental laboratory terminology,Microsolf Office certification, and OSHA 10 certification with a classroom setting. Upon successful completion of this initial phase, participants receive a Pre-Apprenticeship Certficate.
The Apprenticeship phase, spanning from January 8, 2025, to June 30, 2026, offers an immersive learning experience. During this period, apprentices will accumulate a total of 2,000 credit hours, combining their pre-apprenticeship hours with on-the-job training. This phase provides invaluable hands-on experience in dental laboratory techniques, including impression-taking, fabrication of crowns, bridges, and dentures, and the use of cutting-edge CAD/CAM technology.
Throughout the program, participants benefit from a range of support services, including case management, counseling, and assistance with work-related needs such as clothing and tools. Eligibility Requirements
The Dental Laboratory Apprenticeship Program is designed to provide opportunities for individuals who meet specific criteria. To be eligible for this program, applicants must meet the following requirements:
Age: Applicants must be at least 18 years old at the time of enrollment. However, we do consider applicants who are 16 or 17 years old with written parental or guardian consent. Under the Families First program, adults cannot exceed age 24 years. Individuals over the age of 24 years may apply under other grant funded opportunities.
Income Status: This program is primarily aimed at assisting low-income individuals and families. Applicants must meet the income eligibility criteria as defined by the State of Tennessee Families First Funding guidelines. This typically means having a household income at or below 185% of the Federal Poverty Level, adjusted for family size.
Residency: Applicants must be residents of Hardeman, Haywood, or Madison county and able to provide proof of residency.
Education: While a high school diploma or GED is preferred, it is not mandatory. We welcome applicants with various educational backgrounds.
Legal Status: Applicants must be legally able to work in the United States.
Physical Capability: Due to the nature of dental laboratory work, applicants should have good manual dexterity and visual acuity. Reasonable accommodations can be made for individuals with disabilities.
Commitment: Applicants must be able to commit to the full duration of the program, including both the 3-month pre-apprenticeship and the 18-month apprenticeship phases.

Participant Guidelines and ExpectationS

First and foremost, attendance is crucial. We require a minimum attendance rate of 85% for all scheduled classes, workshops, and on-the-job training sessions. This high attendance rate is essential for mastering the skills and knowledge needed to become a proficient dental laboratory technician. If you anticipate any absences, you must notify your instructor or supervisor in advance. Excessive absences may result in removal from the program.
Punctuality goes hand-in-hand with attendance. Arriving on time demonstrates respect for your instructors, fellow apprentices, and the program itself. Consistent tardiness will be addressed and may impact your standing in the program. We understand that life can be unpredictable, so if you're running late, please communicate with your instructor or supervisor as soon as possible.
Maintaining professional conduct is another cornerstone of our program. This includes treating all instructors, staff, and fellow apprentices with respect and courtesy. We expect you to use appropriate language, dress professionally, and adhere to all safety protocols. Remember, you're training for a professional career, and developing these habits now will serve you well in your future workplace.
Academic integrity is non-negotiable. All work submitted must be your own. Plagiarism, cheating, or assisting others in academic dishonesty will result in disciplinary action, potentially including dismissal from the program. If you're struggling with any aspect of the coursework, we encourage you to seek help from your instructors or mentors rather than resorting to dishonest practices.
The program includes both classroom learning and hands-on training. You're expected to complete all assigned coursework, projects, and practical exercises within the given timelines. This includes reading assignments, written work, and practical skill demonstrations. Falling behind can impact not only your progress but also the flow of the entire program, so it's crucial to stay on top of your work.
Safety is paramount in a dental laboratory setting. You must follow all safety guidelines and use protective equipment as instructed. This includes wearing safety glasses, gloves, and other protective gear when working with materials or equipment. Failure to adhere to safety protocols can result in immediate dismissal from the day's activities and potentially from the program if violations are repeated.
